Background

Background

William Kelly, one of the founding members of Rydawi Fish Farms, is an active participant in the aquaculture industry.  William identified the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) as the most appropriate large-scale fish production system in South Africa due to climatic constraints and the ability to control the species-specific success factors year round.  However, he found a poor track record of aquaculture projects in the industry.  Investigation found that these failures were a result of one or more of the following:

  • Inappropriate species selection,
  • poor system design,
  • limited management skills and/or experience,
  • poor cash flow planning,
  • insufficient capital at the outset.

William decided to look outside the aquaculture industry to find a solution.  He found it in the minerals and mining industry which has established methodologies to execute complex large-scale, capital-intensive projects.   He realised that creating a combination of skills, knowledge and experience that combined aquaculture, financial and mining & minerals sectors skill sets and experience was needed. Arising from this Rydawi Services was formed to assist the aquaculture industry develop and grow.

Rydawi Services brings an engineering approach to project design and development using our proprietary Project Development Framework, which is unique in the aquaculture industry in South Africa.

William Kelly, BSc Eng (Chem), APMP
